The Barstow House 1888 isn't just about a bed and breakfast stay! Afternoon tea is a way to enjoy friends and family in a relaxing tradition that will take you back in time. Linger over a warm cup of tea as you enjoy your conversation.
We do our best to honor the tradition of afternoon tea. Our tables are set with heirloom and tea-themed linens. Your tea is served in antique fine bone china tea cups made in England. We use only silver cutlery. We hope all of this will help you travel back in time.
Our mission is to allow our guests a moment to forget the stressful demands of daily life and to enjoy delicious teas as they should be served – perhaps for the first time. If you’d like to learn more about the tradition of tea, we’ll do our best to assist you. If you are a seasoned tea enthusiast, bring your friends and your passion for tea.

We serve a four-course tea for $15 per person (plus NYS sales tax). For groups of six or more, there is a 15% service charge.
All our sandwiches, scones, and desserts are made right here at The Barstow House, using fresh "everything" (butter, cream, eggs, fresh fruits, breads, and toppings).
You’ll enjoy a variety of teas with a seasonal soup or a fresh fruit appetizer, a variety of tea sandwiches, and our homemade cream scones with strawberry jam and Devonshire Cream. Your final course may be crème brûleé, or a variety of sweets (meringue au chocolat, coconut macaroons, thumbprint cookies with date filling, lemon bars, or a variety of other sweets we serve).
At the end of your tea, you'll take home a small gift to remember your visit.

Seasonal Soups: Curry Apple or Creamy Ginger Carrot. Fruit Appetizers: Our own Tropical or Berry Smoothies or Fresh Fruit plate garnished with cinnamon and mint. Savories Homemade Cream Scones Sweets You'll finish your tea with one or a variety of our sweets: butter thumbprint cookies filled with date filling, our coconut macaroons, molasses "teapots," lemon bars, meringue au chocolate, tarte aux fruits, or creme brulee. We serve exceptional full leaf loose teas from Adagio.com, Golden Moon, and Republic of Tea. Although our inventory changes occasionally, we are proud of our black, green, and oolong teas. Most of our teas are caffeinated, but we offer a few herbal and rooibos varieties. Click here to see a list and description of our usual teas. We sell full-leaf loose tea* not found in local stores at competitive prices. Take home one of your favorites! (We package your tea in lined and closable bags to keep your tea fresh. Choose a "12 cup" or "24 cup" Package.) White Peony, Darjeeling, Yunnan Gold, Pumpkin Spice, Tiger Eyes, and Peach. We offer "Red Bloom," a display tea, which "blooms" in your cup and tastes wonderful! *In our gift shop you'll find "brew baskets" to brew your full leaf tea in mug or tea pot at home. Visit our Gift Shop for antique tea cups and start a tradition. Each cup is wrapped with gourmet chocolate, tea, and our own shower gel or hand lotion made especially for us from Emz Blends. You'll find books on Victorian Etiquette and Entertaining, Local History offerings, and The Barstow House "stress kit" which allows the receiver the opportunity to take a few minutes for herself (or himself!) Not all scones are "created equal." If you have never had a homemade cream scone, you are in for a treat. Nothing goes so well with a cup of tea. Our cranberry or blueberry scones are served with jam and clotted cream.
Clotted cream is not whipped cream. It is a specially processed, slightly sweet cream that is a must for enjoying an authentic cream scone. Ours arrives from a company specializing in English products and will accompany strawberry jam on your deliciously warm scones.
